Custom Palladiana Stone Slabs & Bespoke Benchtops

For centuries, artisans across Europe have used Palladiana to transform natural stone into expressive architectural surfaces. This project reinterprets that tradition as a contemporary slab system, bringing the character and individuality of Palladiana into benchtops, reception counters, joinery and architectural furniture.

InStyle Stone designed, fabricated and installed these custom Palladiana slabs for the Space&Co workplace at 530 Collins Street Melbourne. Working alongside the project team, we transformed carefully selected natural stone into large-format architectural surfaces that now define key hospitality, collaboration and reception spaces throughout the workplace.

Each slab features a unique composition. As a result, no two surfaces are ever identical.

Concept Development

First, we selected a complementary palette of natural stone based on colour, texture, veining and movement. We then arranged each piece by hand to create a balanced composition that retained the organic character of traditional Palladiana while introducing a contemporary architectural aesthetic.

Rather than relying on a naturally occurring slab pattern, we carefully positioned every component to create a unique surface. Consequently, each slab became a one-of-a-kind architectural artwork.

Handcrafted Stone Composition

The fabrication process began with the careful cutting, refining and placement of individual stone components.

Throughout the design phase, we focused on:

• Variation in scale and proportion

• Balance between light and dark materials

• Directional movement through natural veining

• Visual rhythm across the slab surface

• Consistency between adjoining panels

This stage forms the foundation of every custom Palladiana slab and showcases the craftsmanship required to create a truly bespoke architectural surface.

Slab Fabrication

Once we approved the composition, our team assembled the individual stone elements into large-format slab panels.

The fabrication process transformed dozens of individual stone pieces into a single architectural surface suitable for commercial, hospitality and residential applications.

Each slab delivers:

As a result, the finished slabs retain the visual character of traditional Palladiana while performing as modern architectural surfaces.

Custom Benchtop Fabrication

Following slab production, we fabricated the material into bespoke benchtops, reception counters and waterfall-end joinery elements.

Furthermore, the project demonstrates how Palladiana can extend beyond flooring applications and become an integral part of contemporary interior architecture.

The completed surfaces function as both practical workspaces and sculptural design features, creating focal points throughout the Space&Co workplace.

Installation & Finished Project

The completed installation highlights the versatility of custom Palladiana slabs within a premium commercial environment.

Large-format benchtops, reception counters and integrated stone elements create a cohesive material language that celebrates craftsmanship, durability and natural stone.

By combining traditional European stoneworking techniques with contemporary fabrication methods, InStyle Stone delivered an architectural outcome that cannot be replicated using conventional stone slabs.

Material Palette

This custom Palladiana composition combines a carefully selected palette of honed natural stone and quartz slabs, including Four Seasons Quartz, Paglierino Travertine, Verde Alpi, Nero Marquina and Tundra Grey.

Together, these materials create depth, movement and contrast across every surface. The combination of rich veining, subtle textures and varied tones produces a bold architectural statement while maintaining the timeless character that defines traditional Palladiana.
